Naturally it was right at the start of baseball's popularity peak and the construction of concrete stadia that sportswriters
founded the still in existence Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) in 1908.
In 1885 a feud started that has been problematic for baseball through the current day. Actually players had been fighting
owner since the inception of professional baseball, but in 1885 the first players union was formed to counter owners and to
protect salaries and fight abuses. In 1994 a dispute between the MLB Players Association and team owners caused a strike that
canceled the '94 World Series.
